Rahima’s Second Chance: From Childhood Illness to a Healthy Heart
At Tegbar Organization, we are committed to restoring hope and health to young people whose dreams are threatened by heart disease. Rahima’s journey is a powerful example of resilience and the life-changing impact of timely support.
14-year-old Rahima from Harar, and she is our 3rd patient to receive life-saving cardiac surgery. Rahima arrived at the hospital with her uncle, carrying years of silent suffering. What began as repeated tonsillitis in her childhood — often treated only with traditional ginger tea at home — quietly developed into a severe heart condition called mitral valve regurgitation.
Without proper medical care, her condition worsened over time, putting her young life at serious risk. Today, thanks to the support of Tegbar Organization, Rahima’s life has been transformed.
We proudly funded her mitral valve replacement surgery with a donation of nearly 1 million Ethiopian Birr. The complex four-hour operation was successfully performed by Ethiopia’s pioneer cardiac surgeon, Dr. Fekede Agwar, and his dedicated team at Healing Valves Ethiopia.
Rahima is now recovering in the ICU in stable condition, beginning her journey back to a normal, healthy life. Rahima is the second child whose heart surgery was made possible through our partnership with Healing Valves Ethiopia.
At Tegbar Organization, we believe every child deserves a chance to grow up healthy and strong. Your continued support helps us bring more stories of hope and healing to children across Ethiopia.
